DANA LEAVES AUCKLAND
RESEARCH WORK IN THE GULF EAST COAST CRUISE At 6 o’clock this morning the Danish Government Research Ship Dana left Auckland to cruise in the Hauraki Gulf and later down the east coast of New Zealand. She will carry out research work for the Marine Department in the Hauraki Gulf, and will then make investigations down the coast as far south as Dunedin. Unless forced in by bad weather, she will not call at Dunedin, but will return to Wellington, where she will pick up Professor J. Schmidt, the leader of the expedition. During her voyage South Dr. P. Jesperson will take Professor Schmidt's place. The Dana has spent a fortnight in Auckland, and the members of the expedition say that they have greatly enjoyed their stay. Many of the officers visited Rotorua and enjoyed the scenery and hospitality there. They had shore leave for a goo4* deal of their stay, and so saw much of Auckland and the surrounding districts.
