LONDON, Dec. 0. >Mr. Augustus John, the noted painter, and Mr. Arthur William Reid, sculptor, have been elected full Royal Academicians. It is recalled that Mr. Augustus John, who is regarded as the .“stormy petrel” of the art w r orld, declared in the course of an interview in 1920 that he could not imagine any independent artist wishing to join the Academy except in a spirit of selfsacrifice.

“If I am elected,” he said, “I may be able to liven it up.”
