TURKS MUST WEAR HATS

LONDON, Dec. 14. The Constantinople correspondent of ‘ The Times” says a decree promulgated by the Turkish Government insists that before January 1 next all Turkish women employed in Government departments and schools must wear European hats, and not the fashionable head scarfs. They must also go uncovered indoors. The decree says the law regarding headwear applies to women and men equally. The scarf is considered a mere relic of the old veil. Up to the present only half of the educated women living in the towns have hats.
