RAILING NECESSARY IN THE NORTH CLAY PORTIONS TOO SOFT To-day’s report from the Auckland Automobile Association « very unpromising. Many of the roads north are impassable to the ordinary motorist. JN the following reports where mads are stated to be bad drivers who are not experienced in driving their cars with chains, through mud up to the running boards, are advised not to attempt to get through. "We are not advising any traflic in the North unless cars are railed from Helensville to Maungaturoto,” stated Mr. R. Champtaloup, the A.A.A. tonring manager. "The West Coast Road, north, is not absolutely impassable, but it requires drivers well experienced in clay conditions. The road is not passable to the average motor tourist. “The Kawakawa and Mangakahia roads in the north of Whangarei are in very bad order. The clay portions of the Maunganui and Herekino roads are also suffering badly in the rain, which is still falling. "On the road to HelensviHe trouble is being experienced at Brigham’s Creek Hill, where there has been blinding with clay preparatory to farther metalling. Chains were required at this point yesterday. “To all intents and purposes the East Coast Road after Orewa is rmpassable, particularly south of Warkworth, where extensive new works are under way. ‘Southward, in spite of warnings on boards and through the Press motorists are still trying to use the Bombay deviation in the wet, and the result has been that many drivers have got into serious trouble. A number of small cars with new drivers have also been in trouble in trying to get over the steep portions of the Razorback on the old main road. “At 11.30 a.m. to-day the deviation was reported to be dry, no rain having fallen south of Drury.

"The Waihi-Tauranga Road is « bad order and motorists are advised V travel via the Kaimai Hill.
