Who’s Who on The TOFUA

Carrying 83 Passengers from the Islands, the s.s. Tofua arrived in Auckland Harbour at 4 p.m. yesterday. She berthed about an hour and a-half later.

Included among the passengers were a number of school teachers from Fiji and Samoa, who are visiting New Zealand on furlough. The trip was an excellent one throughout.

Mr. and Mrs. David G. Holmes, of New York, arrived for a holiday tour of New Zealand, and will proceed south after spending a few days in Auckland. Mr. Holmes has travelled twice round the world, and before leaving America on his present trip, motored from New l ork to Seattle, a distance of about 2,500 miles. He is president and treasurer of the Utility Company of New' York, and is making his first visit to the Dominion.

Mr. W. S. Dodd, a retired railway agent, of New Jersey, ifi visiting New, Zealand as a tourist, and will stay for some time in Auckland. His brother is Mr. W. H. utadd, a Ponsonby resident of 20 years’ standing. * * *

Mr. R. A. Crowdace. Deputy Public Trustee of Samoa, is on a holiday visit to New Zealand.

News of the latest decision regarding Fiji's £500,000 loan is brought to Auckland by Mr. S. 11. Ellis, barrister, of Suva. He says that although it 'vas intended originally to raise £150,000 in Suya, this will now be secured in London at cheaper rates. Among the developments planned are macadamised roads on the coast, to jink with the interior.

Mr. F. c. Clapcott and Mrs. Clapcott, of Fiji, are spending the holidays in New Zealand. Mr. Clapcott is a sugar cane planter at Ba.

A fishing and deer-stalking holiday in the North and South Islands is planned bv Mr. D. H. Dawson, who is visiting New Zealand on leave after some time spent in India and Japan. He is an ex-South Islander.

After some years spent in a study of American railroad conditions Dr. F. Hilderbrand. a young German engineer, is returning to Europe via Australia, lie has been associated with the Airbrake Company, which has a close business connection in the United States with the big railroad firms.

Captain W. M. Bell. Resident Commissioner of S-iv; ii. for the past four years, is spending his furlough in New’ Zealand. For several years he was A.D.C. to Major-General Sir George Richardson and Colonel Tate.
