GOOD PICTURES AND GOOD THEATRES Taken all in all, it may also be said that probably in no other British country is such good value tor the money given by the picture shows as in New Zealand. Anyone who has done the round of the picture theatres in the big cities of the United Kingdom will know that, having regard to the service given, our theatres are ahead in proportion to the prices charged. The same applies when comparisons are made w<4h other Dominions. In regard to the quality of the picture entertainment, it can also be said with confidence that the standard is second to none in the world. Whatever their country of origin, the world’s best come here. So it is that whether by means of the large and beautiful city theatres or the humble show, run maybe in a Public Works camp to the accompaniment of a piano or a gramophone, every sec-

tion of the community is catered for and the celluloid ribbons running through the projectors bring their stories of romance, fun or adventure. WHEN TH£ “TALKIES” COME A good deal has been appearing in the public Press about the “talking” pictures, and their advent will no doubt bring about changes in the internal organisation of the business, the importance of which the public may little appreciate. But one thing we can be sure of, and that is that as in the past, the service provided by our shows will be right up to the needs of the people, and whether “talkie” or “silent,” the films will run right on, keeping this little country well in touch with the big world beyond, and bringing their wholesome entertainment within the reach of all, irrespective of caste or creed.
