McKeown, Manukau Road, Epsom. * • * Miss F. Peacock, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. R. B. Morton, in Morrinsville. Lady Bell is a passenger on the Maunganui, which left Sydney last evening for Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Moore, of Yorkshire House, have gone to Beachlands for the summer holidays. Mrs. J. H. Hammond and Miss Ethel Hammond have returned to Hamilton, from a holiday at Takapuna, Mr. and Mrs. R. Vernon will sail for Sydney, en route for England, on December 28. Mrs. Vernon is better known as Miss Beatrice Budd. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Stebbins, of Detroit; Mrs. and Miss Post of Los Angeles; and Miss A. Fearon, of Wellington, are staying at the Grand Hotel. * * * Sir George Fowlds, Lady Fowlds, and their daughter, Mrs. Hobbis, motored to Hamilton on Friday, when Sir George Fowlds presented the prizes at the Hamilton High School. DIOCESAN SCHOOL FUNDS FOR PLAYING FIELDS Driven into the assembly hall by the rain, the fete of the Diocesan High School was nevertheless a most successful one. The fair, held for the purpose of augmenting the funds for extending the playing fields, was declared open by Mrs. H. O. Nolan. Mr. C. J. Tunks, chairman of the school council, said how indebted the council was to the mothers and the school committee, who had worked so hard to make the fete a success. Mr. A. J Hutchinson, secretary of the playing fields fund, thanked the girls who had worked hard during the year, and also the headmistress. Miss Sandford. Other speakers were Canon Archdall and the Rev. G. C. Cruickshank, the new chaplain of the Diocesan school. On the platform were Miss Sand/ord, Mrs. H. O. Nolan, Mr. and Mrs. Gentles, Mr. and Mrs. Gilfillan, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hutchinson, Mr. Anson, Canon Archdall, Mr. Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Grierson, Mr. Nolan, the Rev. Mr. Cruickshank, and the members of the mothers’ committee. The girls of the different houses ran the stalls, except two, which were under the supervision of the following members of the mothers’ committee: Mrs. A. E. Ford, Mrs. Stanley Chambers. Mrs. R. E. Fenton, Miss Fenton, Mrs. R. W. Isaacs, Mrs. J. J.. Lennox, Mrs. F. Leary, Mrs. F. S. Moorhouse, and Mrs. J. Wilson. CHILDREN’S TREATS KINDERGARTEN CHRISTMAS TREES At the annual Christmas treat of St. James’ Kindergarten, Miss White presented prizes for attendance and care in personal appearance. Father Christmas was represented by Mr. Pragnall. The committee, of which the president is Mrs. J. B. Macfarlane, provided morning tea for the mothers and good things for the children. The Sunbeams Kindergarten held its first Christmas tree yesterday morning. The committee, with Mrs. C. B. Plummer as president, had provided gifts, entertainment, and a Christmas feast for the children. Mr. Ellerbeck. as Father Christmas, distributed the gifts from a laden tree. At the Newmarket kindergarten, a forest of balloons made a canopy over a generous Christmas tree. The committee, of which Mrs. M. M. Louisson is chairwoman were present to greet the mothers and children who were their guests. Prizes for full attendance for the year were won by four girls and one boy. At the Ponsonby kindergarten the Rev. W. W. Averill, as Father Christmas, had a busy time. The president, Mrs. Laidlaw, was hostess, and many mothers were present. Mr. Goldie gave strawberries for the children, and rounds of applause greeted Miss Middleton, the director, when Father Christmas called her to receive gifts from the children. CROQUET AFTERNOON To welcome back from America Mrs. David Harvey, an afternoon tea was given by Mrs. J. Newell, president of the Devonport Croquet Club, at the lawns yesterday. A progressive croquet match was played. Among those present were: Mrs. Newell, Mrs. Harvey, Mrs. Yeoman, Mrs. Mason, Mrs. F. Newell, Mrs. Newbegin, Mrs. Spicer, Mrs. Foster, Mrs. Flinn, Mrs. R. Duder, Mrs. Rocke, Mrs. Hilton. Mrs. Seaton, Mrs. Prime, sen., Mrs. Pallairet, Mrs. Swann, Mrs. Vaile, Mrs. Lidford. Mrs. Carl Prime, Mrs. C. Rhodes, Mrs. Craigmile, Mrs. B.
