Obituary

MR. THOMAS BEGG The death is reported from Dunedin of Mr. Thomas Begg. Born in Dunedin 73 years ago Mr. Begg opposed the Hon. W. J. M. Larnach for the Peninsula seat in the House of Representatives at one election. He was a director of the New Zealand Engineering Company, well-known in the ’eighties. Among his sons are Dr. Andrew Begg, at present engaged in cancer research in London, and Dr. Arawa Begg, of Pukekohe. CAPTAIN A. G. PAGE One of the oldest master mariners on the New Zealand coast, Captain Arthur George Page, died in Auckland yesterday morning at the age of 71. For over 50 years Captain Page served at sea, spending most of the time as master of sailing and steam vessels in the local coastal trade. During the war he went to San Francisco as second officer of the schooner Ysabel and to England as third mate of the steamer Admiral Codrington. He also made several voyages to the South Sea Islands. Captain Page was well-known on the water-front and made many friends. As a mark of respect the harbour flags were flown at half-mast yesterday#
