HEAVY TRACK AFTER RAIN

WORK AT ELLERSLIE FEW FAST GALLOPS RECORDED Work carried out. at Ellerslie This morning was largely confined to three - Quarter pace on number two Heavy rain overnight did not make the U-ack y conducive to fast times being registered, the gallops, on the whole, being only poor from a tune point Tji nrsli'-, although little fancied, is continuing his Cup engagement and he was sent a mile and a-quarter this morning, his stable-companion, War Officer, joining in over the U They were never really asked to ao their best, the effort being just a good working gallop, Thursby covering the final round in 1.53 4-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.26 3-5. Corinax and Perception also covered a similar distance as that performed by Thursby, but neither were after time. The. task was sufficient to show that the pair are progressing satisfactorily. A , , Sir Russell moved comfortably over six furlongs in 1.24; travelling in free and easy style. Sir Mond, ridden by a light-weight, had a slight advantage over Jolly Money and Mon Star at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.8 1-5.. Jolly Money, however, carried a fair impost and could have clipped a few seconds off the time. Fair Gallop Lomint revelled in the soft going when she drew out from Sleepy Sol over the last bit of a six-furlong task in 1.20 2-5. It was a neat gallop, and instances that Lomint is in the pink of condition at present. Double Mint and Taneriri were easing up at the end of a .round in 1.58 2-5, which for six furlongs Golden Wedding and Winsome Boy registered 1.22. The last-named pair strode in pleasing fashion over the initial three furlongs in 38 2-5. Critique had the best of Norval Tea at the end of five furlongs in 1.6 4-5, which Te Money, not unduly bustled, took a tick less. Archeno and Lineroo ran home from the six furlongs post in 1.22 2-5, Bannock registering similar time over the same ground. Usually—at Ellerslie at any rate — Lady’s Boy is a poor track-worker, but he showed plenty of speed in leading Bennie over half a mile in 52 2-5. He is in nice fettle just now, and should race prominently during the Ellerslie carnival. Modest Boy and Hyde Park were asked to go six furlongs, moving speedily over the first two in 26, three in 39, and the full journey in 1.21 1-5. They are in good order far immediate engagements. Yaque could have improved upon 1.23, which he recorded for six furlongs, while Knight Town executed a five-furlong effort in 1.8. Valsier and Brampton were a pair to cover a round at little better than three-quarter pace, Eager Rose also doing steady work over six furlongs. On the sand Sir Archie ran seven furlongs in 1.34 4-5, and finished strongly.
