Duchess Who Wages War On Ospreys

■yyOMEN in the West End of London who wear osprey feather trimmings have recently received a politely worded letter and a booklet requesting them not to do so and pointing out the cruelty involved to the birds in obtaining these feathers. The letters, which are signed by the Duchess of Portland, have been issued by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, of which the duchess is president. The women selected for the letters have been noticed by close friends of the duchess, who have forwarded the names to the central office of the society. Since the end of September, when the campaign started, more than 300 letters have been sent.
