Channel Train
Engineer Presents Bold Tunnel Plan ENORMOUS COST (Australian and N.Z. Press Association} (United Service) Reed. 11.35 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. Ah engineer has worked out a scheme for a seven-feet-gauge electric railway, linking up London with Paris, via a Channel tunnel. It would follow an entirely new route from England to France. It would enter the Channel near Dover, and emerge at Wimereux. The Channel tunnel, including 11mile approaches, would be 44 miles long. Trains weighing 550 tons, drawn by electric locomotives, would attain a maximum speed of 120 miles an hour and an average of 92. They would complete the 253 miles’ journey in 2 hours 45 minutes. The estimated cost is £190,000,000.
