FEARS OF FREIGHT RISE

STRIKES IN AUSTRALIA NOTHING DEFINITE YET (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociationJ \ Reed. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Wednesday. ' Fears expressed in Australia that frequent strike dislocations of trade will inevitably lead to an increase in freights have aroused a similar conjecture here. Some suggest that something will happen next year. Responsible quarters are not prepared to confirm or deny the possibility, but they point out in relation to the Aberdeen-Com-monwealth Line that the terms of the sale provide for preference of such matters to the Australian committee. The Australian and New Zealand Press Association understands that the question of an increase in shipping freights has not gone beyond the discussion stage. Furthermore, there are considerable differences of opinion between members of the conference about the advisability of taking any move in that direction. Certainly there is nothing in any way definite. If present indications are a guide, the balance of opinion is against an increase being made in the New Year.
