CITY BOWLERS WIN
HARDLEY SHIELD FIRST SERIES After interesting play in the afternoon, the Auckland Bowling Centre’s representatives yesterday won the first series of games for the J. W. Hardley Shield in the competition with South Auckland on the Epsom greens. Auckland ended up the day with 105 games, and the Southerners, s£. The aggregate points were: Auckland, 353; South Auckland, 289. The visitors really fared better in the morning, when they scored 156 points to Auckland’s 166, and won three of eight games. In the afternoon, 32 new Auckland players were matched against the Southerners, and the new test undoubtedly had its effect. In the afternoon Auckland won 55 games (187 points) to the visitors’ 25 games (133 points). The second series of matches for the shield will be played at Hamilton in
the New Year. The centre winning the most points in both contests will hold the shield. The points will count only in the event of the teams winning an equal number of games. Results of yesterday afternoon’s play (Auckland rinks mentioned first): Jenkins, 16, v. Higgott, 16; Keatley, 20, v. Stewart, 16: Buckley, 18, v. Bell, 22; Wright, 39, v. North, 8; Finlay, 14, v.
