“MIDNIGHT FROLICS”

NEXT SHOW AT HIS MAJESTY’S The next J. C. Williamson attraction at His Majesty’s Theatre is the return to the Dominion, after a remarkably successful tour of Australia, of the Midnight Frolics, who open a season on Wednesday, December 5, and run for several weeks with a change of programme weekly. The Frolics are headed by the extremely popular comedian, Clem. Dawe, probably one of the most' versatile of fun-makers who has yet visited the Dominion. A Brisbane critic, says: “The champagne of wit is served by Clem Dawe. He has unlimited opportunities during the three hours of a most delightful Show to make merry, and he gets the full extent. The Frolics provide bubbling humour, excellent dancing, genuinely ' humorous and original comedy sketches, rich musical numbers; haunting melodies and a jazz band of 12, the whole making the show one Of the most successful revue companies in the colonies. The show has already become a favourite on its recent visit and with a greatly augmented number of artists should repeat its former triumph. Speaking of the jazz band of 12 musicians. “The .Register,” Adelaide, says: “All musicians are of a high standard and in addition to contributing popular airs, folk songs and jazz melodies, the interpretation of operatic selections on jazz instruments provides an outstanding turn.” Favourites in the company are Eric Edgley, who partners Clem Dawe in most of his fun, and Gregory Ivanolf, a popular violinist. Les White, Dorothy White and Gertie Creamer are a trio of humorists. Phyllis Amery is the dancer, and singers are Oscar Beck, William Perryman and Lillian Crisp, the latter here recently playing important roles with the Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Company. There will be a complete new stage presentation of the show. The box plans open on Monday, December 3, at Lewis Eady, Ltd.
