SMOKE BOMBS AND DYES
GUIDES FOR AIRPL/tNES BYRD EXPEDITION’S EQUIPMENT » Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. Commander Richard Byrd has decided that the steamer Eleanor Bolling shall call at Dunedin first. She is expected to arrive there on Saturday, and will come to Wellington later to take in the equipment brought by the C. A. Larsen. As usual with these expeditions, many gifts, including a ton of chocolate, are being offered. A fair quantity of stores will oe purchased in New Zealand, such as eggs, candlet matches, clothing, and boots. One of the novelties of the expedition will be the use of bottles filled with aniline dye. Dropped on the snow, they will break and leave a large reu patch as a guide to airplanes. Smoke bombs are also to be employed for this purpose.
