£62,000 FOR DRAINAGE
MOUNT ROSKILL’S SCHEME Acting under the board’s instructions, the resident engineer, Mr. J. D. Whitmore, submitted plans and estimates to the Mount Roskill Road Board at its meeting last evening, for the permanent drainage of the western area of the board’s district. The plans submitted were designed to deal with a maximum flow of com billed storm water and sanitary sew age over an area of 44 acres. This means that all the area West of Parau Street will have the total quantity of storm water and sewage carried away, hut the area to the eastward of Parau Street, not including Mount Albert Road, will have to depend upon sump holes for the disposal of stormwater The estimated cost was £47,625. This, however, did not include anv payment due. to the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, as any that may be incurred in the raising of a loan. The board adopted the scheme, and decided to request the sanction of the Loans Board to a loan of £62,000 to finance the undertaking. The suggested term of the loan is 30 years. Interest is to be 5 per cent,, with per cent, as a sinking fund The valuation of the special area over which the loan is to apply is £203,190 involving a rate of sid in the pound, thereby increasing the total rate for that area to IOJd in the pound. Provision is made in the proposed loan for £3,000 for advances to resi dents for installing the drainage, also for an alocation of £7,725 to the Drainage Board for the disposal of stormwater. The. balance of the £62,000 is made up by costs of brokerage, printing, advertising, and the preparation of the plans and specifications.
