PROOF OF SOUNDNESS
FINANCE POLICY DEFENDED (Special to THE SUNJ WHAKATANE, Monday. “Proof of the soundness of the Dominion’s finances was given by the ease with which the last loan was raised.” said the Hon. K. S. Williams. Reform candidate for Bay of Plenty, to 300 electors at Whakatane on Saturday night. To judge New Zealand’s credit abroad one should remember that although the last loan had been offered at a lower rate it had been oversubscribed many times, and warmly commended by every financial critic in the Old Country. Information was now being gathered with the object of giving returned soldiers discharged as fit, but who were now suffering through war service, some assistance, he said. He justified the Taupo railway project on account of the development that would take place over a large area of country that would be tapped. At the close of his address, liams was asked about the railway to’ Opotiki. He replied that until he had an opportunity of examining the on the line already constructed to Taneatua, he could not give his decision. He had asked the Railway Department to run lorries between Taneatua and Opotiki in order out the prospective trade. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously.
