EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED

LABOUR IN BAY OF PLENTY (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI. To-day. Mr. A. F. Moncur, the Labour candidate for the Bay of Plenty, received an enthusiastic reception here last night, when he delivered an address before 500 electors. The Mayor, Mr. G. S. Moody, was chairman. Mr. Moncur appealed to the young people to study politics, and he was confident they would very soon become convinced of the need of a rapid change in government. He said his reception throughout the electorate had greatly exceeded expectations. Continuing, he said he was convinced that the troubles of the country were due to private banks, whose policy was arranged in the interests of private shareholders. The Coates Administration had surrendered and sacrificed themselves to a financial dictatorship. An unparalleled opportunity to place New Zealand on the road to prosperity had failed badly. The Reform policy was . bankrupt when it could not place people on the land, or keep people on the land. The speaker condemned the immigration policy and said New Zealand boys should get the first opportunity of work.

He briefly touched on Labour’s education policy, and the repeal of the Military Service Act, and concluded by saying nothing could keep Labour back, and only two things could hinder it—vested interests and the apathy of the working people. He was accorded a motion of confidence.
