A SUPER “RAFFLES”?
GAOL-BREAKER’S BOAST COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE Press Association. OHAKUNE, Monday. At the Ohakune Police Court before Messrs Sargeant and Larkin. J.P's., W. C. Wahle, a man with several aliases, who escaped from the Raetihi lock-up last month, pleaded guilty to eight charges of breaking and entering, and theft while he was at liberty, false pretences, passing valueless cheques, and breaking gaol. He was committed to the Supreme Court, Auckland, for sentence. For the theft of explosives from a person unknown he elected to be dealt with summarily and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. For breaking gaol he received a term of IS months’ imprisonment. Accused made a sworn statement exonerating the police from any negligence, declaring that any lock-up was unable to hold him. He had no outside assistance in escaping and will continue to refuse to divulge the mystery of his method of escape.
