CAPTAIN E. LARGE DEAD GUNSHOT WOUND (Australian and A T .Z. Press Association) DELHI, Saturday. Captain Edwin Ryder Large, the master of the *Ellerm,an Line steamer City of Harvard, which is lying in the Kidderpore Docks, Calcutta, was found dead in his cabin to-day, with a gunshot wound in his head. Captain Edwin Ryder Large had a remarkable career in the Mercantile Marine and Avith the Navy during the war He was born in IS7B, and educated at Woolston college, Hampshire. He entered the Mercantile Marir> in 1593. He was appointed a Younger Brother of Trinity House in 1913. He was attached to the Gallipoli Expedition, from the first landing to the final evacuation. He sank several enemy submarines, for which he was awarded the D.S.O. He was given the appreciation of the Commonwealth or Australia, and also of the Lords of the Admiralty on three occasions, for his services. He was awarded the General Service, the Mercantile Marine War and Lloyd’s silver medals for his meritorious services, and also Lloyd’s silver medal for saving life at sea, and the Royal Humane Society’s medal for going overboard and rescuing a seaman in a heavy sea. He Avas Commodore of Convoys while on the transport Ivarroo.
