SCOTT DEFEATS HACKE T FINAL STARTS TO-NIGHT The New Zealand amateur billiards championship was advanced a further stage last evening, when W. E. Hackett played A. Scott in the second semifinal heat. Hackett, who was in the lead until the 400 mark was reached, indulged in rather too much safety play, ancj Scott getting a lucky fluke when the scores were Hackett 397, Scott 387, compiled a well-played break of 57. He had all the best of the exchanges and ran to game when Hackett’s score was 408. Best breaks by Scott were 28, 34, 33, 35, 23, 46 and 49, averaging 8.3. Hackett, who tired perceptibly, made runs of 49, 26, 28 and 23, average 6.7. This evening at 8 o’clock the final game will be commenced when D. M. White and A. Scott will contest the title. The tournament will be concluded on Monday night.
