GREY LYNN

Mr. Fletcher was born in Scotland and gained a wide knowledge of educational administrative problems as secretary of the Scottish Teachers’ Association and a committee member of the Scottish Educational Institute. Twelve years ago he came to New Zealand and joined his brothers in the Fletcher Construction Company. Three years later the firm sent him to rhe United States, Canada, and Great Britain to study the latest methods of construction. Although a director of the firm, he has now retired from business and devoted himself to an intensive study of political and social questions.

Member for Grey Lynn during the past 9 years, Mr. Bartram is asking for a continuance of that confidence which has previously been so generously extended to him. In the forefront of his platform is the social and pensions policy of Labour, including the establishment of a National Insurance Scheme for the payment of maintenance during sickness, adjustment of old-age and widows’ pensions, and an extension of the Family Allowances system to provide an adequate payment to mothers of large families. He is also an advocate of unemployment insurance on a contributory basis with equal payments from employees, ! employers and Government.
