AUCKLAND WEST

Mr. Adeane affirms that the welfare of the people of New Zealand is best maintained by progressive legislation as provided by the Reform Government. He stands for peace, both national and industrial, for fostering trade within the Empire, and for infant welfare by increased State aid for the Plunket Society and the St. Helens Hospitals. Other planks in Mr. Adeane’s platform are the freehold, to make it possible for every man to own liis own home or farm, daylight saving, and reduced taxation, particularly by means of reduced customs duties on the everyday needs of the people.

Mr. Speirs stands fixedly for the people’s rights; for the abolition of Government by Regulation and Order-in-Couneil; for a systematic revaluation of all lands in this Dominion with a view to writing down our over-valued assets and bringing about a more equitable distribution of taxation, based on the true values of the land. He will support any meaisure that has for its object the betterment of the social, industrial, and commercial conditions of the people of this country.

Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., has represented the Auckland West constituency in Parliament for the past nine years, and is at present Deputy-Leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party. Mr. Savage has a fine record of public service, having been a member of the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Hospital Board from 1919 to 1923. In 1927 he was re-elected to the Hospital Board and is still a member. Mr. Savage was one of the four New Zealand representatives who visited Australia in 1926 as members of the British Empire Parliamentary Delegation.
