IN FANCY DRESS
BALL AT TAKAPUNA A fancy dress dance was held in tho Foresters’ Hall. Takapuna, last evening, on behalf of the Waitemata Women’s Progressive League, the funds of the function to go to the relief of distress in tho district. Music was dispensed by th© Taka- " puna Municipal Band, and also by an electric gramophone. This was fitted free of charge by the Dominion Radio Co., Ltd. The judges were Mrs. Levett, Mrs. Steel and Miss Dorothy Steel. Their task in awarding the prizes was a difficult one, but their decisions apparently met with popular approval. These were announced as being: Most original dress: Boy, Garth Ewing (John Bull); girl, Rita Lansley (Italian Girl). Prettiest dress: Boy. Ted Couthard (Harlequin); girl, ’ Nancy Kay-Stratton (Queen of the Butterflies). Least costly dress: Boy, Victor Viall (Why Did I Kiss That Girl?); girl, Nancy Richardson (Seaside Cottage). Special prizes: Leslie Jack (Moth), Dawn Short (Red Cross Nurse), Milton Wright (Robinson Crusoe), Glynn Roberts (Mexican), Jack Eckersley (Kentucky Minstrel), Rona Christey (Hawaiian Girl), Betty Eckersley (Pierette). Others present in costume were: David Roberts (Jester), Betty Middleton (Dutch Girl), Tui Coulthard (Rose), Muir Douglas (Pirate), Ronald Hutchinson (Hawaiian . Chief), Noel Gordon (Target), Mervyn Eckersley (Carnival Pierette), Billy Nicks (Irish Dancer), Merline Lamb Jack Spencer (Golliwog), Vera Smith (Pierette), .Toan Kennedy (Wedding Cake). Jack Ensley (Nigger Minstrel), Muriel Wilson (The Sun), Leon Wright (Rajah), Betty Blackwell (Fairy), Ina Smith (Pierette), Florence Knight (Irish Girl), Grace Sheriff (Folly), Margaret Shaw (Sleepless Night). After the revels of the juveniles were ended their elders carried on until midnight. Among those present, tho following were noted: Dr. Wilkie (president W.W.P.L.). black beaded frock, with fringe.
