BUSY BOWLING DAY

MANY GREENS ACTIVE FINAL RESULTS With the weather clearing early in the day, most, of the bowling clubs that arranged Labour Day tournaments were able to go on the greens yesterday and put in an enjoyable day. Following are the results of the semi-finals played in the evening: CARLTON Fine weather prevailed for the Carlton Club's tournament, which attracted 160 players. In addition to the details published in The Sun yesterday the followins semi-finals were played:— Semi-finals—Wiekstead, Brittain, Rowe, Fookes, 17, v. Lamb, Bruce, George De Launay, S; Isaacs, Elliott, Kilgour, Snedden, 17, v. Wrigllt, Mackav, Stevens Ritchie, 5. The final between Snedden and Fookes will he. played on Saturday. PONSONBY Tlio playing of Sections A and B in the Ponsonby tournament resulted in wins for McGregor and Bryant respectively. The play-off will take place at a later date MOUNT ALBERT Clark and Garlick were the sectional winners at Alount Albert. The final will be played later. EPSOM Section A H. Wright, 4 wins; Boyne, 3; Bremner, 3: Crawford. 2; Jenkin, 2; J. Wright, 2; Morrison,' 2: Gribble, 2. Wright, St. Heliers, won the section outright. Jones, with 6 wins. DOMINION ROAD Sixteen teams competed in the Labour Day tournament played in two sections by the Dominion Road Bowling Club yesterday. Results are as follow: Section A Hawkins, 4i wins. Section B Leyland, Sayers and Ashbury tied with 3 wins each. In the first play-off Sayers beat Leyland. RAWHITI Section A Buckman. Clarkson, J. PUKEKOHE The annual tournament for the Northern Waikato Bowling Association’s banner took place on the Pukekohe Bowling Club’s green yesterday. The sectional play was completed, leaving the semifinals and final to be played next Saturday. Twenty rinks competed, x-epresent-ing all the clubs in the association, as follow; Clevedoin* Patumahoe, Waiuku, Pukekohe, Buckland, Tuakau. In section A the Waiuku rink (N. NaugUton, W. L. West, W. Teape and B. Xeil) tied for first place with Pukekohe (TI. Burrows, S. T. Day, W. J. Short and S. A. Hosking), each with three wins. A play-off of live heads resulted in a win for Waiuku. The winners in the other sections were:—Section B: Waiuku (W. R. Harris, M. Aldred, H. M. Barriball, G. P. Williams), 4 wins. Section C: Pukekohe (David Roulston, T. Thompson, S. STANLEY BAY Under pleasant weather conditions members of the Stanley Bay Club celebrated Labour Day by carrying out a progressive pairs tournament. Keen contests were the order of the day, and at the conclusion of the games it was found that six of the skips had to play off to decide the winner. Five heads were played, with the result that F. Cox took first place, with A. E. Smith as runnerup. F. Whitley won the leads prize outright with four wins, while S. C. Clarke came next with three and a-half wins. HUNTLY President Frank Littleproud welcomed a large attendance at the opening of the Huntly Bowling Club’s season on Saturday, paying a deserved compliment to the green keeper, who had the riverside club’s ground a picture. All'. Littleproud enjoined all those present to come over to the good old game, incidentally congratulating the club’s members on their enthusiasm resulting in increased membership. Airs. Littleproud threw up the first jack, while Airs. Percy Crimmins, the Croquet Club’s president, made the first drive on the croquet grounds. The secretary, Air J.
