ENGLISH CRICKETERS DEPARTURE FOR AUSTRALIA (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociationJ LONDON, Saturday. Some of the members of the English cricket team for Australia left St, Pancras Station to-day, including D. R. Jardine, Geary, Staples, and the manager, F. C. Toone, who faced a battery of cameras while they talked to a host of friends. Mr. Toone’s last word was that he was very confident of victory In the test matches. Hobbs made no commen. on the test matches, but said he was delighted to be able to go to Australia. He anticipated a keen tussle, but the tour was always enjoyable because of the Australian spirit of fair play among the crowd.
Sir Frank Stock, a former president of Lancashire County Club, P. G. Fender, A. P. Chapman and other wellknown players were at the station. The train steamed out to the accompaniment of cheers, which reached a crescendo when a loud voice called out: “Good-bye. Bring back the ashes.” The three members of the team shouted: “We will try.”
