BUILDING IN AUCKLAND
BUSY PERIOD LAST MONTH
OVER A MILLION FOR 1928 SO FAR
Over £1,000,000 is involved in building operations commenced .'n the city since the beginning of the year. Permits to the value of £943,885 have been issued by the Auckland City Council in the past eight months, but that figure does not include the contract for the buliding of the new railway station, the price of which is £320,000. In the corresponding period of last year the permits issued involved an expenditure of £884,818, so that, exclusive of the railway contract, the increase this year is £59,067. The 'comparative figures for 1928 and 1927 are as follow:
Permits for 31 dwellings were included in last month’s returns, compared with 40 in August, 1927. The largest buildings £or which permits were issued last month comprised:—Flats, totalling 60 rooms, in Parnell Road, for Mr. A. Cleave, £18,576; laundry for the Auckland Laundry, Limited, in Surrey Orescent, £15,600; wool store for the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, in St. George’s Bay Road, £10,777; warehouse for Mr. W. Fowler, in Anzac Avenue, £7,350; cheatre for Messrs. Beazley and Punch, in Great North Road, £7,200.
