RADIO AND ITS RECEIVERS

Conducted for THE SUN

R. F. HAYCOCK.

Mystery Night

PUZZLE FOR LISTENERS

Novelty From Auckland

COMPLAINT Las often been made that the broadcasting company has failed to provide sufficient novelties for listeners, and the news that IYA is to stage a “mystery night” to-night should do much to dispel any of the discontent existing on that score.

The scheme adopted for the programme to-night is as follows. The programme will consist of a number of musical and dramatic items, including gramophone records. The list has been published, but neither the names of the performers nor the nature of the voice nor the name of the instrument will be announced. Listeners are invited to supply the missing information, and also to say whether or not it is a gramophone record. To the listener sending in a correct or most nearly

correct reply a £SO phonograph will be given. The scheme is certainly a novel one and it will prove most perplexing to listeners, as they are not told whether the actual performers have been on the air from IYA before or whether they are entirely new to the microphone. Apart from this so excellent do records sound over the air that it is very doubtful if many will distinguish them from straight-out items. The company is to be congratulated upon arranging a decided novelty, and is certain that every set will be tuned in to-night to IYA, Auckland.
