TOURNAMENT PLAY (From Our Own Correspondent) ROTORUA, To-day. Rain made play unpleasant yesterday afternoon on the opening day of the Rotorua tourney.
The following qualified for the championship:—W. Morrice, 142; H. B. Lusk, 153; S. E. Carr, 78—75, 153; A. Seifert, jun., 73—83, 154; Britton, 79—75, 154; Ralph, 76—78, 154; Aldred, 78—77, 155; H. Brinsden, 79 —76, 155; N. Bull, 76—80, 156; Tidmarsh, 80—79, 159; J. B. Macewan, 75—84, 159; P. Western, 80—80. 160; F. Trice, 77—84, 161; I. Harrison. 77—84, 161; G. M. Dodgshun, 82—79, 161; M. Carr, 79 —82, 161.
The draw for the handicap match play among the second 16 is as follows:—Tallis (7) v. Wake (&), Fisher (14) v. Christianson (6), Campbell (8) v. Howden, jun. (13), Willock (6), v. Abbott (4), Dacre (10) v. C. Western (8), C. G. Johnson (12) v. Louisson (4), Fryer (scr) v. W. Maingay (10), Salmond (11) v. Thompson (9). The game that attracted most most attention in the first round was that between H. B. Lusk (plus 2) and W. Morrice (scr). Lusk’s score was 78 —80, and Morrice’s 74—74. In the afternoon round Lusk scored 75—77 and Morri- e 68 —68. Morrice received a great ovation on finishing. Both players had a long putt for the last stroke. The first 16 play off on match play, the second 16 play off on handicap match play. A. Seifert, who scored 80 in the first round, was disqualified in the second round for playing the wrong ball. The results of to-day’s play are as follow: First round A championship: Lusk beat M. D. Carr, 6—5; Tidmarsh beat Britton, 3—2; S. E. Carr beat Trice, 7—6; McEwan beat Aldred.
