MAORI KING’S BROTHER TO STAND OPPONENT FOR SIR MAUI POMARE (Special to THE SUN) HUNTLY, To-day. Tumate Mahuta, third son of the late King Mahuta, and a brother of the present king, Rata Mahuta, of Waahi, Huntly, whose mana is very strong, will contest the Western Maori seat against Sir Maui Pomare at the General Elections. The announcement is of exceptional interest, as previously this influential family has not interfered in Maori politics. The aspirant for politics is expected to receive heavy support from Lower Waikato natives.

The present paramount chieftainess, Princess Te Puea Herangi, who is a daughter of the late Tahuna Herangi (Mr. Charles Searmore), for many years private secretary to King Mahuta, will probably exert her strong influence on the side of Tumate Maliuta,
