WAR MEMORIAL FOR ONEHUNGA
DESIGN APPROVED ft A model of the proposed war memorial archway -to be erected at the Quadrant Street entrance to Jellicoe Park, Onehunga, was approved by a committee of Onehunga citizens last evening. The model, which has been designed by Mr. John Park, has a large central archway, with two smaller arches, one on either side, and finished off with artistic abutments at each end. The structure itself is to be built of specially selected lava rock from the Mount Smart quarry. The meeting, which was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt. adopted Mr. Park’s plans and accorded him a hearty vote of thanks. The estimated cost of the memorial is- £l5O and an executive committee comprising Messrs. O. T. Asche, J. Park, J. E. Green, N. B. Wilson and J. Robb, was appointed to arrange the finance and supervising the work of erection. A sum of £SO is already in hand, being the surplus from the Onehunga Band Carnival February last.
