LATE COMMERCIAL
QUALITY-BEEF YARDING WESTFIELD SALE HEIFER MAKES £l7/17/6 One of the best quality yardings of beef seen for many weeks came forward to Westfield this morning. Values, generally, held firm at late rates. The cattle offering was from all parts of the province, and was the heaviest recorded for several weeks. North Auckland vendors had several * lines of medium-weight cattle forward. The best quality steers came from South Auckland pastures, however, and showed considerable finish. Whakatane vendors were also represented. Several trucks of excessively heavy prime young cows and heifers came forward from the Feilding district. These cattle were inclined to be overfat for butchers’ purposes, and one or two showed signs of travel. A season’s per head record for cow beef was made for a solid Shorthorn heifer, on account of Jas. Taylor. There were 27 in the line, the * top-priced beast going to T. Collins, Avondale, at £l6. Values, geneirally, for ox-beef held firm at last week’s rates, although an easier tendency was noted at times, especially towards the ends of the sections. Auctioneers* quotations for choice ox are held at up to 465. C. E. Otway, Glen Afton, topped the market with a line of 34 heavy prime steers, which made to £2l 2s 6d and averaged £lB 15s Id.
