FELL INTO FLOODED CREEK

CHILD NEARLY DROWNED (From Our Otcn Correspondent) WHANGAREI. To-day. Linda Wallbank, aged 2 years, had a narrow escape from drowning yesterday afternoon at Whau Valley. Th e Whangarei creek near her home was swollen by heavy rains, and the child wandered in and was swept away. Her sister’s cries gave the alarm, and her mother rushed in and recovered the already submerged child.

Artificial respiration was continued for several minutes, and was successful in bringing the child safely round.
