HAIRDRESSERS’ AWARD
ARBITRATION COURT SITS AT WHANGAREI * (From Our Own Correspondent} WHANGAREI, To-day. "Saturday is worth any other three days of the week to us in Whanga-1-ei,” said a witness, Mi-. J. H. Walker, before the Arbitration Court sitting at Whangarei this-morning, to deal with conditions affecting the hairdressers’ award. Other trade witnesses supported the contention that Whangarei shops could not give a full week’s ahnual holiday continuously at one time, since whoever was away must be back for Saturday duty. Mr. Justice Frazer, who presided, suggested that arrangements between all Whangarei shops to employ a relieving man from Auckland to cover a consecutive period of the chief employees’ holidays could be made. Regarding the claim of the union that women be included, employers contended that work for women 'and children should be differently regarded. The Court stated that the evidence submitted would be considered, and an award made later.
