GROUP SETTLEMENT
NEW SCHEME PLANNED
MINISTER OF LAND’S MEASURE
(THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON. To-day. With great interest will be awaited a hew land-settlement measure to be introduced in the House of Representatives by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod. Briefly, the scheme will provide for group settlement without the necessity of balloting. A number of would-be settlers may, if this legislation is passed, negotiate with the owner of the desired land, with the Lands Department acting as a sort of final arbitrator. The system has already been tried with success in soldier settlement, and is expected to stimulate settlement of tracts suitable for dairying. The Bill will ar>pear in a work »>r two. •
