THOSE LICENCES! THE appearanct of the list of licences aproved for the new racing year is being eagerly awaited in certain quarters, especially that list containing the list of jockeys eligible to ride in future. Of course, the rumourmonger is, as usual, working overtime, but there really appears to be something doing all right. One jockey who has been frequently endeavouring to get his licence back during the past three or four years is reported to have missed again. Another jockey, whose figure has been familiar to Ellerslie patrons for some time, is stated to be unlikely to get his brief, for a while at least. But perhaps the most interesting of all the stories in circulation is that referring to a c'ertain wellknown rider, who did not bother even to apply for his licence. What did he know? Since that Rotorua affair several of those actively connected with racing have been on tenterhooks as to the renewing of their licences. In some cases their anxiety appears to have rested on good grounds.
