SINKING OF LAUNCH
CAPTAIN’S LONG ROW (From Our Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Friday. The launch Konini, with Captain Young the sole occupant, sank on Wednesday night while on a voyage from Amodeo Bay to Auckland with a load of firewood. Late at night Captain Young noticed that the vessel was leaking in the stern, and in order to lighten the load he jettisoned five tons of firewoy;. which caused the water in the ve:» 1 to rush to the bows and hood the enThe Konini continued to settle and Captain Young boarded the small dinghy and saw his vessel sink bows first. He rowed to Waiheke Island, six miles distant, and slept in the open, not knowing his locality. He ivas picked up next morning by a fishing boat, which landed him at Colville, his home, this morning.
