Owner Johnson Will Not Lease Metal RESERVED FOR STUD DUTY SERVICES AVAILABLE IN AUCKLAND J. S. Johnson, owner of the aristocratically-bred Metal, has definitely decided not to lease the pacer, and the son of Don ProntoAmie Bells will now be at the service of Auckland breeders during the coming season. When Metal won at Epping recently several Australian enthusiasts made Owner Johnson enticing' offers for his handsome pacer, but the Auckland sportsman was not to be tempted by the glitter of gold, in fact, he was anxious to dispose of the son of Don Pronto, who is undoubtedly a fine proposition for stud purposes. Negotiations were however entered

mt*> bv a New Zealand light-harness advocate for a lease of Metal lor racing purposes, but since returning to Auckland, his owner has found so many desirious of breeding to the young aristocrat, he has finally decided to give him another season at the stud. During the past two seasons Metal has been at the service of breeders in the Waikato district, where he was in great demand. The Don Pronto horse has proved himself a sure foalgetter, and those who own some of his early stock are loud in their praises of the high-grade quality of his gets. Metal, who is bred in the purple, is an ideal sire and has the happy knack of transmitting his fine qualities to his offspring. In order to give Auckland breeders an opportunity of linking up with the Don Pronto line, owner Johnson and his horse will remain in Auckland for the coming season, and judging by the number of inquiries received about Metal’s services, and the early bookings pencilled, the Australian-bred sire will be keenly sought after. When his stud duties are completed Metal will probably return to Australia for racing purposes, and it is Quite on the cards he will then be secured by on© of the breeding trainers in the Commonwealth.
