PARENTS MEET
ASSOCIATION FORMED AT MOUNT EDEN
At a meeting in the Normal School at Mount Eden last evening it was decided to form a parents’ association. About 150 people were present under the chairmanship of Mr. H. G. Cousins, principal of the Auckland Training College. Mr. Cousins explained that it was hoped to help the interests of the school by bringing the parents and teachers closer together. It was decided to call the organisation the Normal School Parents’ Association. The following committee was elected: —Mrs. Segedin, Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Bannatyne, Mrs. Davidson, Mrs. Cranwell and Messrs. M. Segedin, McKenzie, Tuck, the Rev. Long and Messrs. Crawshaw, D. M. Rae, Aikman and Dowd. In opening the meeting Mr. Cousins said that he had been the first headmaster of the school and was proud of the way in which its reputation had been upheld. He assured the parents that nothing but good could come of the Normal School system, as the children were thrown on their own resources and developed self-reliance and initiative. If the parents wished to see their children, Mr. Hudson, the present headmaster, would be glad to have them visit the school and to hear their criticisms. Mr. E. Varley Hudson thanked Mr. Cousins for his speech and said that the Education Board would give the new association all the help possible. He claimed that through the medium of a properly organised parents’ association, parents and teachers would be brought into closer contact with one another, and the bonds of mutual understanding between them would be strengthened.
