“LISTENERS NEVER HEAR ANY GOOD” MARRIED WOMAN GETS £2O A conversation overheard on the telephone was the cause of a slander action heard by Mr. J. H. Luxford. S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today, when Mrs. Mary Birch claimed . £4O damages from Mrs. Irene Kermode. The evidence showed that defendant had made defamatory statements con- ; cerning plaintiff in the course of a telephone conversation, which the latter had overheard. The magistrate said he was satisfied the words had been used and awarded < £2O damages in respect to one of the two causes of action, with £5 16s costs.
