CALLIOPE SLA SCOUTS

BIRTHDAY PARTY AND PRESENTATION OF BADGES

The Calliope Sea Scouts celebrated their seventh birthday in the Masonic Hall, Devonport, last Saturday evening. Proceedings opened with tne National Anthem, followed by the Do'minion haka. Dancing was the order of the e y®. n ' ing music being supplied by Miss Mavis Waddell and Miss Ruby Woods. Items were given by the following: Violin solo, Sea Scout Kersland; song, “To a Miniature,” Mrs. George; monologue, Petty Officer H. Wooster; recitation, Sea Scout George. During the evening Captain R. A. Woods presented miniatures of the Jellic.oe Trident to the following: SeaScoutmaster R. Iverson, First Mate RHaselden, Second Mate K. Hender, Third Mate A. Tipping, and Sea Scouts A. Newell, S. Bell, PI- Larsen, D. Mortimer, L. Rice, H. Didsbury, K. Hall, G. Stevens, D. George, H. Godden, K. Farquhar, PI. Wooster, and ex-Sea Scouts R. Davern, IP. Mutch, J. Haselden, R. C. Macpherson and W. D. Stevens. The company is indebted to Mrs. Larsen for the engraving of the 'date on the miniatures.

On behalf of ex-Sea Scout Davern, Captain Woods presented a medal to tho bo’sn, A. Newell, as the best allround scout in the company for the year. D. Mortimer, runner-up. received a Nautical Almanac, presented by the Master. Mr. Iverson. The Hodgmon Shield was presented to the Port Watch for most points in general work. Ex-Sea Scouts R. Davern and H. Mutch presented to the company two enlarged and framed photos of the boats putting to sea from the Wade River. Dancing took up the remainder of the evening and, at 11 p.m., the National Anthem closed a very happy function. A pleasant ceremony took place at the last parade, when the Master, Mr. R. Iverson, presented the following ratings with badges and all-round cords:— Leading Seaman L. Rice, third allround cords, weatherman, rigger, ambulance, fireman, carpenter, cyclist. Bo’sn A. Newell. King’s Sea Scout. Petty Officer H. Wooster, third allround cords. King’s Sea Scout, coast watchman, pilot, weatherman, fireman, electrician, missioner, entertainer, heal thy man. Ambulance Assistant H. Didsbury, King’s Sea Scout, pilot, coast watchman, entertainer. Leading Signalman D. Mortimer, third all-round cords, weatherman, engineer, plumber, healthyman, cyclist. Able Seaman K. Hall, King’s Sea Scout, pilot, coast watchman. Ordinary Seaman O. Holland, ambulance, fireman, missioner. Ordinary Seaman J. Holland, fireman, swimmer, rescuer, missioner. Writer K. Farquhar, swimmer, cook, cyclist.
