LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

AUCKLAND BRANCH LUNCH The occasion was for the purpose of bringing new members together and to give them the opportunity of becoming thoroughly acquainted with the aims of the organisation, said Mrs. John Cook, who presided at the luncheon of the Auckland branch of the League of Nations in the Lyceum Club yesterday. It was also fitting, said Mrs, Cook, that the luncheon should be held in a woman’s club, as one of the most prominent aims of the League was to work for the welfare of the women and children in all countries. Mrs. Cook extended a welcome to Mr. Todd, secretary of the Gisborne branch. Mr. McMillan, who has been a missionary in India for 25 years, and who has been three years in Fiji, was introduced by Mrs. Cook. He spoke of the conditions and viewpoints of the people in India and Fiji, and dealt with Asia and its problems.
