Turned to Stage Rather than Law
Mr. Victor Fitzherbert PARLIAMENTARY FAMILY The law was not sufficiently attractive for Air. Victor Fitzherbert, a member of a well-known New Zealand legal family, so he abandoned it and sought a career behind the footlights. The amateur stage, as so often is the case, provided the necessary opportunity. It is IS years since Air. Fitzherbert, who is a grandson o £ Sir William Fitzherbert, former Speaker of the Legislative Council, and ex-Colonial Treasurer, turned to the theatrical profession rather than become, as have so many of his family, “learned in the law.” He returned to Auckland to-day by the Marama, a member of the “Rookery Nook” company, which will stage the comedy successes of Ben Travers in Auckland. Air. Fitzherbert formerly lived at Wellington, Palmerston North and New Plymouth, and he is naturally looking forward to renewing acquaintance with different centres in his native land. His father, Air. H. S. Fitzherbert, like his father before him, was a New Zealand Parliamentarian. He was representative for the Hutt. Of recent years Air. Victor Fitzherbert has supported many stars. A former trip to the Dominion was made with the late Emilie Polini. Early experience was gained under the direction of Julius Knight. Air. Fitzherbert was also with Frank Neill’s players.
