WHEN TE KUITI CAME TO TOWN
PROFIT OF £3,000 SUCCESS OF RECENT MEETING (Special to THE SUN) TE KUITI, Saturday. There is every reason to hope that the profits to the Te Kuiti Racing Club from the meeting held recently at Ellerslie will exceed £3,000. This result was announced by Mr. A. F. Howarth, president of the club. Mr. W. S. Spence, race meeting secretary, advised that a rough balancesheet of the two-day meeting had been drawn up, and he expected that the profits would be as mentioned above. The club’s committee in its most sanguine mood had only anticipated a profit of £2,500, remarked Mr. Howarth. The meeting was considered by racing men to be one of the most successful country club meetings held in Auckland. The totalisator returns on the second day far exceeded expectations, no doubt accounted for by the adverse weather condition prevailing for the trots held the previous week, when a drop of £24,000 in investments was registered. The success of the meeting has put the Te Kuiti Club on a sound financial footing, enabling liabilities to the Government to be paid off and to reduce the bank overdraft. The Auckland District Committee has agreed to grant the Te Kuiti Club November 24 and 26 for its next fixture, subject to the approval of the New Zealand Racing Conference. These should prove the most suitable dates, coming close to the Taumarunui and Te Awamutu meetings, and thus making a good circuit.
