ARCHITECTURAL TESTS

AUCKLANDERS CHOSEN VICTORY AND TITE AWARDS Out of 18 entries from New Zealand in the final tests for the Victory Scholarship and the Tite Prize, four Auckland students of architecture have been selected for competition. Mr. G. F. Wilson will compete for the Victory award, and Messrs. C. A. Marshall. V. Brown, and C. Sanderson for the Tite Prize. Messrs. Marshall and Sanderson are third-year degree students in architecture at the University College, Messrs. Wilson and Brown being with city firms. A preliminary examination was held on June 2, and the final test, in which 10 weeks are allowed for competition, commenced on July 7. New Zealand candidates will have to compete with students from all parts of the Empire. It is the first occasion on which there have been candidates from this country, and the final result will be announced toward the end of the year. NEW ZEALAND’S INCLUSION The participation of New Zealanders shows the increasing interest being taken by the Royal Institute of British Architects in the training of students in this country. The Dominion competition was conducted by the New Zealand Institute of Architects. The Victory Scholarship, £2150 in value, is to be expended in advanced study, facilities for which are provided by the university school of architecture in Auckland. The Tite Prize, of £ 50, is to enable students to make a study of Italian architecture. In the United Kingdom, the money is usually spent on a trip to Italy and a short period of study there. This is hardly in the power of New Zealanders, and the competition committee will decide how the prize should be applied. Papers for the final competition will be judged in England.
