Motor Lorry Wrecked In Corner Smash

TWO MEN INJURED ' COLLISION WITH BUS A light motor-lorry carrying two men crashed into a light motoromnibus with three passengers at the corner of Great South Road and Market Road at 8.25 a.m. today* T he front of the motor-lorry was crushed right into the body and its two occupants sent to hospital for treatment. The bus was tom down the side. Although the roads were wet and slippery and there was a large amount of traffic going citywards, visibility was reasonably good. The vehicles were approaching in opposite directions along Great South Road, and the bus, which belongs to the Te Papapa Bus* Service, had almost completed its turn into Market Road when the lorry crashed head on into its rear. The bus, which was driven by Mr. W. Taylor, manager of the service, was torn about the body and the glass smashed, but the lorry, which was owned by Messrs. E. A. Martin and G. Morse, carriers, of Panmure, and which carried both Mr. Martin and Mr. Morse, was completely wrecked. The bonnet and engine were pressed concertina-like through into the body, both wheels were torn off, and the whole front of the vehicle was twisted into an unrecognisable mass of iron, glass and wood. TRAFFIC HELD UP A bag of coal was torn open and the contents mingled with the glass and wood which, scattered .over the tram lines and motor thoroughfare. Both occupants of the lorry were Injured slightly, and were removed to the Auckland Hospital for treatment at the casualty ward. Mr. Martin injured a rib and cut hie hand, and Mr. Morse suffered cuts on the hand. Both have returned home. The driver of the bus, together with his passengers, escaped without injury, as all were sitting in the front portion of the vehicle. Residents in the vicinity declare that this is one of the most dangerous corners in the city, and has been the Beene of several accidents. Traffic was held up for some time on account of the vehicles blocking the passage of trams and cars. Other motor-cars coming through a. little later suffered in picking up scattered broken glass and nails from the wreckage.
