“Train Was Late”

Mishaps to Engines Disorganise Service LIMITED ALSO DELAYED When little Miss Suburbia rushed into her office an hour late this morning she had an excellent excuse to counter the dark looks of her employer. “The train was late,” she said brightly as she ran her fingers over the typewriter keys. And it was the truth. This morning the suburban train service was dislocated. Two engines broke down and consequently threw the early morning service out of order. The first mishap occurred on the engine drawing the 7.4 a.m. train from Otahuhu, and tfce second on the 7.55 a.m. train from the same district. As there are between 12 and 14 suburban trains running into Auckland at frequent intervals every morning, the hold-up was a long one. Locomotives had to be sent out to take the places of those which had broken down. In some cases two trains were attached and brought into the city as one. The Limited was held up for half an hour and did not reach the city until 10 o’clock.
