AFTER-HOUR TRADING
CAMBRIDGE LICENSEE FINED CUSTOMERS ALSO CONVICTED (From Our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE. Friday. When the local police walked into the licensed premises of the Masonic Hotel, Cambridge, about 9.30 p.m.. on May 18, they made a haul for they found Wm. Hobson, Henry Mclvor, L. Webber and Michael McHugh in the bar with drinks before them, having been served by the barman, Victor F. Cray. They appeared before Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M., at the monthly sitting of the Court to-day and pleaded guilty to being in the hotel after hours. They were convicted and fined £2 with costs 10s each. The barman was convicted and fined £ 3 with costs 10s for serving them. For the licensee, Thomas S. Cray, charged with supplying liquor after hours, counsel explained that he was upstairs and did not know that any drinking was going on until he came down to see a man on business. He was in the act of requesting the accused to leave the premises when the police arrived. In convicting and fining accused £lO with costs 10s the magistrate remarked that accused should know that it was his responsibility to retain the bar keys after closing hours.
