MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS CHATHAM CUP COMPETITION

At the meeting: of the management committee of the Auckland Football Association last evening, the Thistle Club replied to the association’s request for a written assurance of its ability to fulfil any Chatham Cup engagements, by stating that it would do so, as ‘Tar as lay in its power.” Committee members expressed dissatisfaction with this, but decided to accept it, at the same time warning the Thistle Club that it would be liable to be dealt with by the New Zealand Council should it fail to fulfil its obligations in this respect. Entries were received from the Y.M.C.A. and Onehunga Clubs for the Falcon Cup competition. The Tramway Club delegate, Mr. Drew, notified the committee that his club would be unable to fulfil its obligations if it were called upon to meet Y.M.C.A. at Blandford Park at 1.30 p.m. next Saturday. Mr. Drew stated that his club received scant consideration at the hands of the tramways management, and this would probably mean that there would be no Tramway Club next year. Accordingly, the Tramways-Y.M.C.A. match will be staged at 3 p.m. at Blandford Park. The Y.M.C.A. Club delegate registered a protest against the action of the Association in always trying out candidates for the New Zealand referees’ badge in his club’s matches. The finance committee reported that the sum of £l7 17s 6d was still outstanding from the insurance fund. This meant, therefore, that there were some 135 players in Auckland strictly ineligible to play. The appeal entered by the Onehunga Club against the four weeks’ suspension imposed on Terry by the judicial committee was dismissed.

J. Edmonds, of Comrades, was suspended for two playing Saturdavs for rough play, and Kay, of the Thistle Club, was also suspended for two playing Saturdays for disputing the referee’s decision in the game against Belmont on Saturday.

Mellor, of Onehunga, was regraded from senior to second grade; D Dowell, of North Shore, was transferred to Belmont; Probert, of Belmont, to North Shore; W. J. Wilford, from Rangers to Ponsonby; and Jessop. from Eden Rovers to Kiwi.
