“ADMIRABLE DISCRETION”

COMPLIMENT TO PRESS AT the conclusion of the Transport Commission’s sitting this mornig Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., congratulated the Press on the manner in which the commission’s proceedings had been reported.

“Chesterton’s essays refer to the three styles of reporting,” he said; “the verbatim report, the concise summary, an dthe report that says nothing at all. The Auckland Press has adopted the second method and exercised admirable discretion in preparing its reports. “All the newspaper accounts of our proceedings have been filed and will undoubtedly prove of great value to us.”
